Taxes in Ontario: What newcomers need to know

Ontario residents file a single T1 return that includes both federal taxes (CRA) and provincial taxes. You do not file a separate Ontario return. Key Ontario-specific tax benefits: the Ontario Trillium Benefit (OTB) — a combined benefit for energy costs, property tax, and sales tax relief — the Ontario Child Benefit (OCB) which tops up the federal CCB, and the Ontario Senior Homeowners' Property Tax Grant. OHIP premiums were eliminated in 2020.
