Banking in Nunavut: What newcomers need to know

Nunavut has extremely limited banking infrastructure — one of the most challenging banking environments in Canada. Iqaluit has TD and RBC branches; most other communities have no physical bank at all. The Territorial government and many employers provide direct deposit — opening a bank account before arriving is essential (you can do this online with TD, RBC, or KOHO before landing). ATMs in remote Nunavut communities may have limited cash availability. Bring sufficient cash for the first few weeks if settling outside Iqaluit.
