Healthcare in British Columbia: What newcomers need to know

BC's Medical Services Plan (MSP) has a 3-month waiting period starting from the month you establish residency. During this period, you need private insurance bridge coverage. Apply for your BC Services Card (your MSP enrollment card) immediately upon arriving. The card doubles as ID. MSP covers doctor visits, hospital, and lab tests. Dental, prescriptions, and vision are not covered by MSP unless you qualify for Income Assistance.
